Is The American Dream Dead?

I think we have lost sight of why people buy homes. In my 25+ year career of either in the real estate business or the mortgage business, I’ve always communicated this. People buy a home for 2 reasons- emotional and economical. I think back in the roaring 2000’s people forgot the emotional side. They were intoxicated with the economic side. Folks were getting 30 and 40 percent appreciation in some markets and thought it would always be going up. It was the best investment in their portfolio. Then the music stopped. When you look at the numbers logically it makes MORE sense to buy a home today than it did back then but that’s not happening and let me explain why I think that is. There are 3 major reasons.

How Do You Make Yourself Save?

Q: Have you had to trick yourself into saving? What's your advice to help others put more money away?

A: One trick of mine is to drop all of my change every day into a big glass jar in my closet. You wouldn't believe how fast that adds up. The last time I took the money to the bank I had over $400 and never missed it. I'm saving for a surprise for my husband's 50th birthday!
